EACH/PIC Statement on MD PDAB UPL Vote on Jardiance

April 14, 2026

Tiffany Westrich-Robertson, EACH/PIC Coalition founder and person living with an autoimmune condition, issued the following statement on the Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board vote on implementing an upper payment limit for Jardiance

“In approving an upper payment limit for Jardiance, the Maryland PDAB moved forward with an unproven policy that is unlikely to meaningfully lower patient out-of-pocket costs and may create new barriers for those who rely on this treatment.

“UPLs target system-level spending rather than the true drivers of patient affordability. As a result, patients are unlikely to benefit directly and, without protections against increased utilization management or other unintended consequences, may face greater barriers to accessing Jardiance.

“We urge the Maryland PDAB and state legislators to pursue reforms that directly improve patient affordability and access, not just reduce costs for the state. At the same time, we urge legislators to advance protections that guard against the unintended but very real risks this policy may create.”
