PIC Launches Patient-Created Survey on Drug Affordability and Access

,

More and more patients are reporting difficulty getting the medications they need to maintain their health. However, in our complicated healthcare marketplace, patients can experience everything from high-costs to insurance denials.

To get a better sense of what patients experience, the Patient Inclusion Council is set to relaunch an online survey in February 2025 that will seek patient and caregiver input about prescription drugs – focusing on gaining detailed insights on why a drug may be affordable or unaffordable.

The comprehensive survey was initially created by patient research partners (PRPs), research professionals, and patient organizations, and questions revised by a professional survey designer and analyst. The initiative aims to accurately capture patient perspectives and identify true affordability or access challenges that patients face to better inform health policy and reform efforts.

Results will be used to provide missing patient experience data (PED) for existing PDAB, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and legislators (both existing PDABs and those trying to form a PDAB) so they can be better informed of patient-reported issues and successes, and in turn, can better create health policies that address their needs.

The Patient Inclusion Council aims to empower patients and caregivers to shape healthcare policy through peer-led education, perspective sharing, and activities to ensure patient-reported needs are incorporated into drug affordability solutions.
